A history that began back in 1962, an example for any real estate venture by any entrepreneur interested in keeping respect for the environment a priority.
Located in the beautiful setting of Lombardy, the club offers an unforgettable experience to its visitors, thanks to its fascinating history and high-quality services.
From the founding to the present day
The Golf Club Carimate was founded in 1962, together with a residential settlement of villas surrounded by the green golf course. Today, Carimate is an example of respect for the environment in real estate initiatives. The district is located between Milan and Como, in the Brianza hills. Its history began in 1955, when Baroness Arnaboldi Cazzaniga sold the park and castle to the Società Generale Immobiliare of Rome. The vast estate was ideal for the realisation of an ambitious project, with the manor as the centrepiece, a residential area of villas (around 400) and a golf course on 60 hectares.
The design
The Golf Club Carimate was born with a strong connection to Italian design, at a time when golf was associated with the Anglo-Saxon image. Piero Mancinelli designed the course, adapting it to the unevenness of the terrain and the housing project, while Guido Veneziani and Vico Magistretti created a clubhouse with a modern and original design. The clubhouse features white volumes that follow the contours of the terrain, with windows framing the landscape and trees in the park. Magistretti also designed the 'Carimate' chair for the restaurant, which became an Italian design classic, produced by Cassina.
The Carimate castle
The Carimate Castle dates back to the 12th century and was initially built as a fortress by the Carimate Counts. Over the centuries, it passed from hand to hand between various noble families, including the Visconti, Sforza and Borromeo families. The castle was also the site of meetings between Ludovico il Moro and Emperor Maximilian I. In the 19th century, the castle was converted into a noble residence, and in 1955 it was sold to the Società Generale Immobiliare of Rome.
The Club House
The Club House at the Carimate Castle Golf Club was designed in 1962 by the design masters Vico Magistretti and Guido Veneziani. The structure follows the differences in elevation of the terrain to reduce environmental impact. Inside, bars, lounges and playing areas extend over large terraces thanks to glass windows. The floor shows signs of time, telling the story of the club.
The field
The golf course was designed by the engineer Piero Mancinelli: in 1962, the first nine holes were constructed and, three years later, the remaining nine. In 1989, he was commissioned to modernise the course, which was completed in 2007. The course has a wavy and varied layout, set among ten thousand trees and surrounded by dense tall vegetation.
